SBCC Mission Statement
To promote and enhance positive business activity and growth
in the Slate Belt region with special emphasis on community involvement.

The Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce consists of ten distinct communities within a section of Northampton County associated with the time honored industry of slate mining, hence the name Slate Belt.

The communities represented by the SBCC are Portland, Upper and Lower Mt. Bethel, Bangor, East Bangor, Roseto, Pen Argyl, Wind Gap, Plainfield and Washington Township. The current Chamber of Commerce was founded on January 1, 1989, however the area's original chamber of commerce, which there were several, date back to the 1930's.

The present day SBCC office is centrally located at 366 Blue Valley Dr., Bangor, PA.

The Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce is an action agency designed to meet the needs of the communities it represents. The chamber is a voluntary organization of individuals and businesses who band together to advance the commercial, financial, industrial and civic interest of our area. It is also a civic clearing house, a public relations counselor, a legislative representative at the local, state and national levels of government, and information bureau and a research and promotion medium.

The strength of the Chamber lies in its ability to attract the greatest number of individuals and firms into membership; thereby creating a pool of professional resources and services to help business and industry grow. The Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce enables people to accomplish collectively, what no one person could do individually.

The mission of the Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce is to promote and maintain a positive environment in which both new and existing businesses can thrive. It is important for the SBCC to keep the Slate Belt moving in a forward direction, while working to maintain the quality of life we have become accustomed to .

The Chamber would like to thank the businesses, communities, organizations and all the individuals who support our programs and activities. Help preserve, protect and foster the free enterprise system in the Slate Belt, become a member of the Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce. It's a matter of pride.
