Annual Toy Drive
The Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce welcomes members to participate in an Annual Toy Drive to support local families during the holiday season.
SBCC Members and their guests are invited to a Holiday Luncheon held at the BASD Slater Conference Room where toys are distributed to Slater Family Network and Families First, community organizations that directly assist families within the Bangor and Pen Argyl School Districts.
The very talented BASD Select Choir typically performs during the luncheon which adds to the holiday spirit!
Members that can’t attend are encouraged to drop toys off at the Chamber Office during the month of December.
SBCC Awards Businessperson and Volunteer of the Year
The Slate Belt Chamber of Commerce opens nominations each year for the public to nominate a chamber member that has made significant contributions to the Slate Belt business community or volunteer efforts. The criteria for these awards include factors such as entrepreneurial success, community involvement, and leadership.
The nominations are reviewed by the Awards Committee and recipients are selected based on the information provided by the nominations. Award winners are announced on social media and by the local press.
The SBCC President presents the awards during the Annual Awards Dinner where winners are celebrated by Chamber members and their family and friends.
SBCC Scholarships
The Scholarship Committee devotes time and energy throughout the year raising funds to provide scholarships to four local high school seniors. Since 2000, we have raised overs $65,000 through donations and our Annual Scholarship Golf Classic. Opportunities are available to support this worthy cause through sponsorships, getting a golf foursome together, or volunteering at the event.
Scholarship applications are made available to students through the local school guidance offices in March. Winners are announced each spring on social media and in the local press. Scholarships are presented by the Committee Chairperson at the Annual Awards Dinner held at Tuscarora Inn & Conference Center.

Our children are our future business leaders!
Santa’s Elves
The Santa’s Elves committee is a devoted and hardworking group of individuals that truly enjoys this program! Funds are raised through generous donations and the annual Dime Toss Booth at the Blue Valley Farm Show each August. Glassware donations are also accepted throughout the year.
The funds raised allows the Elves committee to provide a Holiday Party for less fortunate children in the Slate Belt community. The party combines crafts and games, lunch and snacks, and of course – a visit from Santa with gifts!
